Wax Museum

All of the 2nd grade at Shayne did a wax museum presentation.  Kate chose Sacajawea.  She did a great job memorizing her lines!  It was a crazy time in the hallway, lots of noise and it was hot, but so much fun to see all the kids in their outfits and hear their speeches. 

Transitions

This is a way for us to keep track of what is going on in our world, so sometimes there are no pictures. Last week was really hard. Our four year old foster daughter had to leave after having only been with us for a week, but her behavior was so out of control that she needed more than we could give. We are always praying and trusting that the Lord has a plan for each child that enters our home and sometimes that plan does not include us for the long haul. 

 

Also, there might be some big changes for our family on the horizon.  I can't share more now, but I want to have it down somewhere that we are praying about changes for the future.  I will write more when I know.  Praying and trusting. 

Chattanooga-Pop Turns 70

Our good friend, Dr. Henry, turned 70 recently. He played such a big part of our lives while we were in college and has continued to do so since then.  His family was throwing him a birthday party, so we went.  They asked Phil to sing and to say a little something about Dr. Henry. There were other people there that also did some songs and talked about him.  The kids call them Pop and Gram (Mrs. Henry), so they are very dear to us. We had some time on Saturday, so we did some touristy things.  We never really have the chance to do that in Chattanooga, since we are normally just passing through and stay long enough to see the Henrys. On Saturday, we went to the zoo in the morning, did a duck tour in the afternoon, and then took the free shuttle to Coolidge Park and rode the carousel. That night we had dinner with the Henrys at Lupie's and hung out at their house after. Sunday, we went to the Henrys' church and then had the party after the morning service. Rachel drove Andrew (the Henrys' oldest son that has autism) around so Mrs. Henry could be with Mr. Henry during the party. It was a nice weekend and the weather was beautiful. We were so thankful to all be together. 

Princess Day at the Zoo

Phil is out of town with John, so we had a girls' weekend. It started with a new girl joining our family on Thursday evening.  None of the pictures will contain her, but she was along for the whole weekend. She is four and we aren't sure how long she will be with us. It takes time for that information to come out and we will know more after some meetings this week. Friday night we went to the indoor pool at the YMCA. Saturday was Princess Day at the zoo, so we went. We got there around 9 and got into line at 9:30. Taking pictures started at 10. I'm so glad we waited. By the time it started at 10, the line was all the way to the zoo entrance.  We would have waited for hours, but we only had to wait for a half hour.  Woohoo!  The girls loved it and then we got to ride some rides and see a few animals. 

Zoo Stop with Mommy

One of the really nice things about having a zoo membership is that we can stop in any time and not feel bad about a quick visit.  Our zoo also happens to be right across from where we do our grocery shopping.  Win-win! So, yesterday, John and I went to the zoo for a short time after getting some groceries. It was cold enough that the groceries could hang out in the car for an hour while John and I burned off some energy.  We played, raced, and just enjoyed the sunshine and animals. John starts kindergarten in the fall, so I'm thankful for this time it gets to be just him and me.  

John is still short enough to go in the kiddie play area.  

John was mad because I made him go on the soaring eagle zip line. It goes backward super fast way up high and then brings you back down super fast. You can see the giraffes and rhinos from way up top. This is the second time that I've gone with John and every time he fights to get on, but then says, "I knew I would love it." 😏

They are doing construction on the zoo parking lot. It was more fun to watch the trucks than to see the animals. 

Dr. Seuss Week, Breakfast with Friends, Crazy Hair Day

Last week at school was Dr. Seuss week since it was his birthday.  The girls got to dress up in different ways every day. Crazy sock day, professional day (what do you want to be when you grow up), crazy hair day, and so on. The only day I took a picture was on crazy hair day.  

On Friday, we kept some friends' kids and let them stay overnight, so the parents could have a night away.  Everyone had a great time and a yummy breakfast the next morning of waffles and bacon.  Saturday night was free ice cream day at Bruster's if you wore your PJs, which we did, of course! Yum!
