Spring Break Fun

We had spring break for a week and two days. It was such a great time for us to rest and catch up from the last seven months. We did go away for the first weekend, but it was very restful for us. We then spent the week mostly at home. There was a local holiday going on, so we spent one afternoon with friends making some local treats. During the week, we did a cooking show (Cutthroat Kitchen) with some friends. Our friend, Krista, organized it all and it was a ton of fun! We also spent two days at school cleaning our rooms and doing some organizing/lesson planning. It was a great break and we were all refreshed when it was time to go back.

Guinea Pig Surprise

The first weekend of spring break we went to a nearby town for a few days. Phil leads an English conversation club when we go and we take the time to relax and play or rest. While we were there, some friends were keeping our guinea pigs (which we thought were two boys). We got a surprise when our friend texted and said they went to bed with two guinea pigs and woke up to three! What  shock for all of us! So, it turns out our two boys were actually a male and female. 😮  Since it happened at our friends' house, their girls named the baby. His/her name is Pinecone. We are not actually sure yet if it's a boy or girl, but then we thought we were sure with the other two. Ha! The baby is super cute, but is growing quickly. We will have to make the decision to get rid of the one parent that does not match the gender of the baby. It's sad, but we do not want to be raising guinea pig babies every 50-72 days. 😏

The Day Our Friends Came to Town!

Four friends from the states came to visit for a week. They helped out at the school where we work, helped with the Refugee Care Team, met the people we have become friends with, and did many more things. The best part of the week was sitting around chatting and laughing and catching up! We were very encouraged by their visit and the week went way too fast!

Field Trip

Every month, the elementary does a fun end of the month activity. For February, we were supposed to go to a local milk factory that makes ice cream, sour cream, yogurt, and other such dairy products. While on the way there, the factory called and cancelled. Such is life here. :)  Well, the leadership quickly changed plans and took us to a place where there are stone carvings and a museum. It was a beautiful day to be outside. I loved the fact that our whole family was on the field trip together. We also paired the 5/6 with the Kindergartners. It was so helpful to have a big kid with a smaller kid.  I love the school atmosphere of the big kids daily interacting with the smaller kids. Also, I LOVE getting to work with Phil!

Two of my assistants (One works with me every day, the other two teach in the afternoons while I am at language class.)

One of my kindergartners fell asleep on the way home. Phil was so kind to carry her off the bus and to the school. Such a great perk of working together!
