Phil & Rachel's Shenanigans: Christmas Trip-Switzerland

Dec. 21st: Got up early to take a taxi to the train. So glad we got tickets when we first got to Paris. The train was full. We had a couple of transfers to get to Zermatt. We arrived in Zermatt around 5:00. Made it to our hostel. The hostel was a little disappointing in that we couldn't lock our room. We had to leave a deposit for the key, but because we were leaving early and the receptionist wouldn't be there to give us our deposit back, we had to sleep without our door locked. (It was not a good night's sleep. Kate fell out of bed, Anna hopped out of bed thinking that someone was trying to get in, I tossed and turned all night thinking about the door.)

Phil wasn't feeling well, so I took the kids and went out to find dinner. We ate at Milano's Pizzeria. After, we got some chocolate for friends and headed back to the hostel.

Dec. 22nd: Today was the day to ride the Glacier Express. It took us all throughout Switzerland and the Alps. We traveled up into the mountains and back down again and then back up. We saw lots of snow and lots of giant trees. It was very beautiful. We talked with people on the train from India (now living in Singapore), people from Singapore, and people from Ohio! Three sisters backpacking asked Anna to play cards with them. So sweet! We had a great time laughing with people from all over the world.

We had to take a taxi to our hotel in St. Moritz. We had trouble finding the place once we got there. The name on booking.com is not the name of the place where we had to check in. Very confusing. We finally found it and got settled in our room. I went out to get some groceries for dinner. We had tortillas with beans, salsa, guacamole, and strange cheese. The store had all of that stuff. It was strange, but it worked. The room was nice, the beds were warm, and the door locked!
